Title: Snowmelt runoff modelling in Beas river basin - A case study

Abstract: The snowmelt runoff model (SRM) developed by Martinec and Rango has been applied to Beas basin upto Pandoh dam site having extensive snow cover during winter for modelling the snowmelt runoff. IRS-1C, WiFS data has been digitally analyzed using the Integrated Land and Water Information System (ILWIS) software to estimate the aerial extent of the snow-cover in each elevation zone. The study is confined to the snowmelt period only. The Nash-Sutcliffe goodness of fit is 0.77 and the percentage seasonal difference in volume is 7.90% during the calibration. During validation the Nash-Sutcliffe goodness of fit is 0.72 and the percentage seasonal difference in volume is 10.06%. It is seen that the snowmelt runoff model can be satisfactorily applied to the Beas basin.
