Title: 2.4-/5.2-GHz concurrent dual-band wireless local area network transmitter

Abstract: The paper reports a dual-band transmitter that operates simultaneously at two wireless local area network (WLAN) frequencies of 2.4-GHz and 5.2-GHz. The transmitter's architecture employs a combination of direct-conversion and parallel schemes in order to achieve concurrent multi-band operation with reduced component count. This, in turn, leads to savings in power consumption and size of overall system, while enhancing system's versatility. A transmitter prototype is implemented using both off-the-shelf and fabricated dual-frequency RF (radio-frequency) front-end components. The dual-frequency circuits are developed using hybrid microwave integrated circuit (HMIC) technology. With a receiver sensitivity of -71 dBm, the implemented system exhibits a minimum coverage range of 87-m for concurrent dual-standard WLAN application.
