Title: Optimal PID design for Load frequency control using QRAWCP approach

Abstract: In this paper, a new approach is proposed to design optimal PID controller for load frequency control (LFC) problem. This scheme is based on Quadratic Regulator Approach with Compensating Pole (QRAWCP) technique. Application of this control law is done to both single area and multi-area power system based load frequency problem. In addition to the nominal situation, robustness of this controller is also tested on the same systems with respect to parametric uncertainty, external disturbances, and non-linearities like Generation Rate Constraint (GRC) and Governor Dead Band (GDB). The performance evaluation is done using Matlab & Simulink based simulations and the obtained results are compared with the performance achieved using the recent control strategies designed for LFC. © 2018
