Abstract: | Present practice in the design of asynchronous drive systems is primarily directed towards modifications in the control circuit of the converter unit to achieve reduced ripples in the power supply waveform, so that the ill effects of time-harmonics on the operation of standard induction motors can be obviated. An alternative approach presented in the paper, points to the possibility of designing specially dedicated windings, which enable gainful use of time-harmonics in the supply profile for production of aiding torques. Called the Dual Convergence Approach; the methodology proposes a procedure for computer-aided design of an optimum converter-motor pair for asynchronous drive applications. |
