Title: Cyclic behaviour of confined and unconfined RC beam column joints (T-joints)

Abstract: An experimental study was performed to analyze the behaviour and performance of reinforced beam-column T-joints under cyclic loading. In present work two full scale unconfined T-joints has been designed according to IS: 456-200 and the other two full scale confined were also designed with the same code but it was detailed with special confining reinforcement according to IS: 13920-1993. The beams were subjected to cyclic forces with controlled displacements cycles. The amplitude of displacement was increased monotonically using a servo controlled hydraulic actuator. The ends of the columns were fixed with the help of channels to attain fixidity. The hysteresis curves of the specimens have been plotted. The strength and ductility of the confined and unconfined specimens are compared. The behavior and failure pattern of the joints in two cases are compared and discussed. Analytical modelling of the same is done with the help of the software package SEISMOSTRUCT and its behavior with the actual one is compared. Main emphasis remains on comparison of the strength and ductility of the confined and unconfined RC specimen. © 2010 CAFET-INNOVA TECHNICAL SOCIETY. All rights reserved.
