Noise pollution status of metropolitan city Lucknow

Abstract

Industrial and transport activities are the two major sources of noise in any urban area. A study was carried out for Lucknow metropolitan city to asses the existing status of noise levels and its impacts on the environment with a possibility of further expansion of city. Ambient noise levels were measured at the selected location dividing the urban areas into different zones on the basis of land use, like silence, heavy traffic, residential and commercial zone. The L10, L50, L90 and Leq values at almost all the locations have been calculated and noise levels at all locations were found to be much higher than the prescribed limits. The values obtained have also been compared with the CPCB standards. © 2005 - Kalpana Corporation.
