dc.description.abstractThe pavement maintenance can be preventive or corrective depending upon the type and severity of pavement condition. PPM (Preventive pavement maintenance) is used to arrest minor deterioration, retard progressive failures, and reduce the need for corrective maintenance. In this paper an attempt is made to present the approach to select the PPM for urban road sections based on ANP (analytical network process). ANP uses pair-wise comparison matrix to obtain priorities. A practical illustration of a Noida, a satellite town of Delhi capital of India, is considered as study area. The selected urban road network consists of 21 road sections of 60 km length. The parameters considered for the selection of PPM are expected life, influence of existing pavement condition, seasonal effects, location, cost effectiveness, previous success or failure of a treatment, availability of resources, traffic disruption and surface friction. Looking to the present pavement condition of study area and the prevailing preventive maintenance techniques, four types of PPM alternatives are considered viz. crack seal, chip seal, slurry seal and microsurfacing. The pair-wise comparisons are made among these parameters and PPM alternatives combined with sensitivity analysis, to identify optimal PPM.-
