Abstract: Six new dioxouranium(VI) complexes of the type trans-UCHL-CHgOH. where LH2 «= a Schiff base derived from Q-cresotic acid hydrazide and salicylaldehyde, 5-chlorosalicylaldehyde, 2-hydroxyl-naphthaldehyde, a-hydroxyacetophenone, g-hydroxybenzophenone and pyridoxal, have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, molecular weight, conductance, magnetic susceptibility, IR, NMR and electronic spectral measurements. The complexes are non-electrolytes, monomers, diamagnetic and six-coordinated. The Schiff bases behave as dibasic tridentate ligands and coordinate through the phenolic oxygen, azomethine nitrogen and enolic oxygen atoms. The complexes have a trans-Q=U=Q structure and show a strong and broad band at 21000–23000 cm”- due to the l£+g-> transition. © 1989, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. All rights reserved.
