Abstract: In this study, the effect of the foundation on free vibration of a tapered functionally graded material plate is presented. Simply supported tapered FGM plate is resting on a two-parameter elastic foundation (Winkler and Pasternak). A non-polynomial shear deformation theory which accurately satisfies the boundary condition on the top and bottom surface of the plate is used in the present formulation. The material properties varying in thickness direction follow a simple power law. The equation of motion for the rectangular tapered functionally graded material (P-FGM) plate is derived using Hamilton principle, and analytical solution of free vibration is obtained by Galerkin–Vlasov’s method. The influences of foundation on various parameters like plate aspect ratio, taper ratio, and volume fraction exponent are studied. The numerical results are verified with the available results in past studies. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
