dc.description.abstractThe possibility of utilizing bagasse fly ash and activated carbon for the removal of resorcinol from aqueous solution has been evaluated in this investigation. The up-take of resorcinol is maximum by laboratory grade activated carbon followed by bagasse fly ash and commercial grade activated carbon at the same concentration, temperature and pH of the solution. The difference in up-take of resorcinol is found to be marginal between laboratory grade activated carbon and bagasse fly ash. Equilibrium data of various systems at 30 ± 0.5°C and pH 6.5 fit well to the Freundlich equation. Removal of resorcinol increases with pH of the solution and is maximum at pH 6.5. Column experiments indicated that the adsorbed amount of resorcinol decreased with increasing flow rate and decreasing bed height. Economics of the process has also been presented.-
