Title: Removal of phenol by adsorption on coal fly ash and activated carbon

Abstract: A series of batch adsorption experiments have been carried out under varying conditions viz. absorbent dose, pH, initial concentration of phenol and contact time using coal flyash as a non conventional and low cost adsorbent. At equilibrium 95.96% of adsorption on coal flyash is achieved. Adsorption kinetic data indicate the applicability of Lagergren equation. Adsorption isotherms are well represented by Freundlich equation and indicate favourable adsorption with coal fly ash. Comparison of adsorption capacities of bagasse fly ash and activated carbon has been presented also.
