Title: Analyzing fuzzy system reliability using arithmetic operations on different types of intuitionistic fuzzy numbers

Abstract: This paper presents a new method for fuzzy system reliability analysis based on arithmetic operations of different types of intuitionistic fuzzy numbers. In this paper, the reliabilities of the components of a system are represented by different types of intuitionistic fuzzy numbers. Because in the proposed method, we allow the reliabilities of the components of a system to have different types of intuitionistic fuzzy numbers, it is more flexible than the ones presented in [12, 13]. Furthermore, because the proposed method uses the simple arithmetic operations of intuitionistic fuzzy numbers based on α-cuts and β-cuts rather than the complicated nonlinear programming techniques mentioned in [17], it is simpler in calculating fuzzy system reliability than the one presented in that paper. Numerical example is also given to illustrate the proposed method. © 2012 Springer India Pvt. Ltd.
