Title: Estimation of cumulative damage in concrete gravity dam considering foundation-reservoir interaction

Abstract: Cumulative damage to a concrete gravity dam is estimated when subjected to an earthquake motion. The interaction of dam with the foundation and the reservoir has also been considered. Accelerogram at the bed rock has been estimated by de-convolution of spectrum compatible accelerogram from the rock-outcrop. Concrete damage plasticity model has been used to model the non-linearity of concrete. Time history analysis based on spectrum compatible accelerogram has been performed to obtain the response of the systems. The damage initiated at the heel of the dam body for design basis earthquake (DBE) and stiffness degradation took place after initiation of cracks in the dam body. The cumulative damage at the heel has been evaluated and plotted. From the non-linear analysis of the dam-foundation-reservoir system, it is seen that the damage is concentrated at the dam heel only.
