dc.description.abstractDoubly Fed Induction Machine (DFIM) is preferred in pumping applications since it offers high efficiency and energy conservation at part load operation with a partial rating of power converters. In this machine; smooth starting is ensured by back-back voltage source power converter connected in rotor circuit. This paper summarizes the procedure for the smooth starting of DFIM with a selection of both converter rating and DC link voltage. In addition; this paper primarily presents the dynamic behavior during smooth starting of machine under converter and sensor faults where converter/sensors are considered as significance component in DFIM; also the survival of machine drive during starting period is evaluated under different fault conditions with the performance consideration of DC link voltage; grid current; controller settling time and speed fluctuations. © 2016 IEEE.-
