Title: Development Trends and Future Prospectus of Control Systems Serving to Hydropower Plant

Abstract: Hydropower system is a complex system comprising of hydraulic, electric and mechanical components and their control systems. The modern hydropower system is more complex because of variable speed operation and a specific control system for starting of pump turbine in case of pump storage. So it needs an advanced modelling and control techniques for optimum utilization of hydropower plants. This paper gives an overview of various control systems applied to hydro generating equipment. Various control techniques and controllers for the hydro turbine governing system, excitation control system, smooth starting of the pump, electrical braking for hydro generator, CO2fire protection and electrical protection system have been reviewed. Further, future vision and design challenges associated with the hydropower control system are addressed. © 2018 IEEE.
