Title: Kinetic study of anaerobic digestion of sewage sludge/ high organic strength industrial waste

Abstract: Sludge / High organic strength waste generated from municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants are highly organic in nature, causes environmental pollution if disposed directly into environment and require treatment prior to disposal. Anaerobic digestion is favourable method for the stabilisation of the highly organic waste and production of useful product methane. This method produces less sludge as compare to aerobic process during degradation of organic compounds. Microorganisms responsible for anaerobic degradation of organic compounds are highly sensitive to external conditions as well as internal conditions inside the digester such as inhibitory agents, pH, Volatile fatty acids (VFA) etc. Various dynamic and steady state kinetic models have been developed by various researchers for the description of specific growth rate and also for predicting the behaviour of microorganisms for anaerobic degradation of organic compounds. In the present work kinetic models and kinetic parameters such as yield coefficient (Y), specific growth rate (μ), decay coefficient ( kd), half velocity coefficient (Ks) etc. have been studies.
