Title: Microstructural studies on thermomechanically processed plain carbon dual phase steel

Abstract: Thermomechanical processing for the development of fine grained dual phase (DP) steels is presented here. To quantify the exact influence of thermomechanical processing on microstructural behavior of DP steel, the steel samples were developed by using two different routes i.e. by conventional thermal and by thermomechanical processing. In conventional thermal processing three different steel samples were developed by soaking at different temperatures in the intercritical region followed by water quenching. DP steels were developed by thermomechanical processing via three different paths. It was found that thermomechanically processed DP steels showed grain refinement. Hardness values of thermomechanically processed DP steels were found to be higher than conventional thermally processed steel. Thermomechanical processing is done in Gleeble 3800.
