Title: Performance of symmetric slot-entry hybrid journal bearing in turbulent regime

Abstract: The bearings are frequently used to support and impart the relative motion to the rotors. When these bearings are used under very high speeds in turbo machines, the laminar flow degenerates in to turbulent flow. Hence, the performance of symmetric slot-entry hybrid journal bearing in turbulent regime has been analyzed in the present work. The Reynolds equation has been modified for the turbulent flow in the bearing. This equation has been solved by using FEM with flow equation of slot restrictor. The results have been evaluated for the bearing operating in turbulent as well as laminar regimes. The fluid film stiffness decreases for constant value of slot restrictor design parameter when operates under turbulent regime than laminar regime. Further, fluid film damping coefficients increases with increasing value of Reynolds number than similar bearing, operates in laminar regime.
