dc.description.abstractThe present study leads to the selection of matching filler materials to weld nitrogen alloyed austenitic stainless steel 21-4-N with the desired combination of properties. 7 mm thick 21-4-N hot rolled steel plates were butt welded by Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) with ER2209 (nitrogen alloyed) and E309LMo stainless steel filler wire. Microstructure and mechanical properties of weld joint were studied. The various zones of weld joint were carried out using optical microscopy and field emission electron microscopy (FESEM). It was observed that the weld zone exhibited higher nitrogen content with ER2209 filler resulting in higher tensile strength and hardness. © 2018 Elsevier Ltd.-
