Title: Reliability modeling of an industrial system with Petri nets

Abstract: This paper presents an approach based on stochastic reward nets, an extension of Petri nets, to model and analyze the behavior of the feeding system of a paper industry. The reliability parameters of the system are evaluated using Monte Carlo simulation. The effect of occurrence of failure/course of actions on system performance is examined. The effect of constraints of the availability of repair facilities and concept of preemption (maintenance priority) is also investigated. It is concluded that that reliability/ maintenance engineers/practitioners can understand the dynamics of the system in more realistic manner with this approach. The results thus obtained will be helpful in planning scheduling optimal policies/strategies to improve the system performance. © 2007 Taylor & Francis Group.
