dc.description.abstractThe concerns of depletion of the fossil fuel reserves and climate change have encouraged the utilization of renewable energy resources to fulfill the ever-growing demand. Renewable resources are sustainable and environment friendly. This paper is focused on design and performance optimization of a grid-connected hybrid energy system for an un-electrified village of Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Three different combinations of renewable sources in grid environment are considered and investigated for achieving the required power reliability at user end. The total cost (TC) of each combination has been optimized under technical, social and environmental constraints using biogeography-based optimization (BBO) algorithm. Finally, a suitable combination is recommended for the selected site which offers the minimum cost for the design of the hybrid system. A sensitivity analysis has also been conducted to evaluate the most sensitive parameter of the system. © 2019, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.-
