Title: Identification of inter area modes in an interconnected power system using wavelets

Abstract: In this paper, low frequency inter area modes of a power system have been identified using wavelet analysis. Complex Morlet based, continuous wavelet transform has been used to compute modal frequencies and damping. Mode identification for both stable and unstable cases is considered in this paper. Results obtained using wavelet analysis has been verified by the results of Eigen value analysis. The proposed approach has been successfully applied on modified two area five machine system and five area sixteen machines system. © 2013 IEEE.
