Title: Chireix outphasing switched mode power amplifier for wireless communication

Abstract: This paper presents design and analysis of a Chireix outphasing system using two switched mode GaN HEMT power amplifiers and Chireix power combining network at 1.6 GHz. Highly efficient non-isolated signal combiner along with reactance compensation circuit is utilized to combine two outphased amplified signals. The load modulation due to interaction between branch amplifiers and efficiency enhancement at back-off output power is studied in simulation. The outphasing system is then implemented in hardware and measurement results shows the significant enhancement in efficiency for 7-dB back-off output power at 1.6 GHz. © 2018 IEEE.
