Title: An approach to monitor land cover changes with time series MODIS data over Hot spot region

Abstract: Harmonic analysis is used to map the periodic change variations, and it may provide the stability in the periodic changes about the specific changes at a particular time, which are occurring in Hot spot and non-hot spot regions. Constitutional sinusoidal term provides the amplitude and phase information, which are presented by the unique value. Amplitude values indicate the unimodal and bimodal changes in the time series data. The development of a monitoring procedure at regional level is still a challenging task, as it requires satellite images that have an adequate spatial resolution, high temporal resolution, wide geographical coverage and minimum cost. In this paper, Harmonic or Fourier analysis on 6-year (2007 to 2012) time series of MODIS (Moderate-Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) 8-day best composite images of land surface reflectance and surface temperature have been used to observe the periodic changes in greenness and land temperature over the Jharia Coal Field (JCF) region, India. Also, a comparative study has been done by using the first and second harmonic amplitude and additive term (averaged NDVI image) images to generate the RGB color composite images to interpret the winter and summer time periodic temporal changes. © 2015 IEEE.
