Title: Kinetic study for the oxidation of styrene using polymer supported catalysts

Abstract: Polymer anchored Schiff base tridentate Cu(II) and Mn(II) complexes were synthesized and the catalytic activity for styrene oxidation was studied using tert butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as oxidant. The influence of reaction parameters, e.g., temperature, styrene to TBHP mole ratio, and amount of catalyst on the activity and selectivity of catalysts were studied. The effect of support on styrene oxidation was compared with non polymer anchored support. The recyclability and catalyst deactivation of all the polymer anchored catalysts were assessed. The catalysts can be recycled four times and no appreciable change in catalytic activity and selectivity to products was observed. The polymer anchored complex catalysts were more active as compared to nonpolymer anchored catalysts.
