Title: Processing of fast pyrolysis oil-derived tar fraction in fluid catalytic cracking unit

Abstract: This presentation examines the co-processing of fast pyrolysis oil-derived tar fraction with vacuum gas oil in an advanced cracking evaluation unit in different blending ratios. The catalytic cracking was carried out at constant catalyst to oil ratio of 5 with industrially available equilibrium FCC catalyst. The results of co-processing indicated that the yields of crude naphtha and light cycle oil increased from 28 wt.% to 34 wt.%, respectively, while the yields of dry gas and LPG decreased from 2.1 wt.% to 1.4 wt.% and 38 wt.% to 23 wt.%, respectively, with increase in blending ratio from 5 wt.% to 20 wt.%. Also, heavy cycle oil yield increased with increase in the blending ratio of fast pyrolysis oil due to its higher oxygen content, and limited the higher blending ratio.
