dc.description.abstractLiquid phase styrene oxidation was investigated with polymer anchored Cu(II) and Mn(II) complex catalysts prepared by schiff base ligand. The catalysts were characterized by various techniques such as elemental analysis, atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analyses (EDAX), thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) and UV-vis spectrophotometer. The effect of various reaction parameters such as temperature, styrene to TBHP mole ratio, catalyst amount and oxygen pressure were studied. The main reaction product was styrene oxide with 78.36% selectivity at a temperature of 70°C with tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) as oxidant. Benzaldehyde was found as the main reaction product with oxygen. Cu(II) based catalyst showed better catalytic activity than Mn(II) based catalyst for TBHP as well as O 2.-
