dc.description.abstractSeveral variants of the Singh and Yu (1990) infiltration model were analyzed. The performance of these variants was compared for a large set of infiltration data derived from a variety of soils from Minnesota, Georgia, and India using systems approach. The results revealed that five of these variants performed better than others. These five variants show that the postulate that leads to Holtan model is more significant than the one that leads to the Green-Ampt model. Parameters of all the variants of the generalized version were computed, and their variations with the soil type discussed. The better performing model variants exhibited both the exponents of the Singh-Yu model to be less than 2.-
