dc.description.abstractFor practical purposes, rules have to be defined to use hierarchical membrane structures of P-systems or membrane computing, the latest distributed and parallel paradigm in natural computing. The objective of this paper is to investigate and report the comparative implementation of five membrane optimization algorithms of P-systems based on evolution rules of Particle Swarm Optimization, on the latest CEC 2014 benchmark problem set, as has been asked for in Liang et al. (2013). The results, on this set of 30 problems of varying difficulty levels, is presented as per the specifications and evaluation criteria asked for, therein. The results of our paper show that our results are better than the results presented in the two papers appeared till now. Further, it is concluded that, using membrane optimization algorithms of P-systems based on PSO rules, improves the performance especially for higher dimensions. This can be achieved by minimum inter-communication and load-balancing amongst membranes. © 2014 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.-
